El Yunque Hotels.com extends a warm welcome to Cacique Cafe, a new restaurant in the Balneario Monserrate, in Luquillo.
On a family vacation recently, Billy and Amy (owners of Cacique Cafe) were sitting on the beach at the balneario. They saw the empty facility and said, "Hey, we could do that!" They picked up and moved down from New Jersey to open the operation in July of this year.
We're most impressed with the size of their menu, which is gargantuan by Puerto Rican beach food standards (see below). From what we've seen, Cacique Cafe offers a freshness lacking in so many area establishments, and capable, friendly service. Five different salads are on the menu, and all of the food is made to order. You want an empanadilla? There are a couple under the heat lamp, but that's just for display. They'll offer to cook you a fresh one on the spot. Same goes for the pinchos, tastily seasoned with a hunk of garlic bread.
Sit and have a tropical fruit smoothie while you wait, or an ice-cold beer, and take in the beach scene. This is the physical embodiment of that fantasy you're chasing with your computer: boat drinks on the beach, under a palm tree, with the crystal waters of Luquillo stretched out before you.
